The Teaching of the Point
Consciousness is not a lamp locked in the head: it is the « with » by which the world becomes lived. From the Latin conscientia — to know with — it is the opening through which something appears and is met. The real is not solid matter over here and mind over there: at the finest scale, observation is part of the scene. Your attention is not a detail; it participates in the world you experience. To be conscious is to be with the real.
The Four Aspects
- Creative Power
- The Source of All
- Fundamental Uniqueness
- Pure Presence
Meditation on the Point
Close your eyes and bring to mind a simple image — an apple. Give it shape, colour, presence. Then open your eyes: the image is gone, but it existed for you. It was a form held in consciousness. Sit a few breaths in silence and let this sink in: you are not only in the world; the world also appears in the space of your awareness. With each in-breath, allow more clarity; with each out-breath, release what clouds your attention. Do not try to become other; become more present to what is already there.
Consciousness Practice
For one day, simply notice. Notice when a thought appears and how it hooks you or not. Notice when the world feels dense, hostile, closed — and when it feels fluid, breathable, open. Notice what a calmer attention produces in you. No exam, no jury. Let this perspective settle slowly.
